Letters to the éditeur’s Mailbag
Hugh Prichard’s Commentary article on the city, such as building regulations can be successful that bad buildings (Register-Guard, December 2) certainly also a priority for the Board of Trustees of the Southeast University Neighborhood Association.
We are still accustomed to the fact that seven stories student housing is in our neighborhood - and we can not do something about it.
The developer seems to be the creation of a building of high quality for which we are grateful. But it is on the tower and two houses and three apartments drumherum floors.
The building is not compatible with our neighbours. It is a home, that the University of Oregon should be built on campus.
The terminal is a major problem, because the size of the building. Rules planning, require only 40 parking spaces for the 212 tenants. Most students, who can afford it, renting cars, but they have to park in our neighborhood roads. We are a terminal. Ironically, the manufacturer is almost as anxious as we are, the lack of parking spaces can not, however, some potential tenants away.
The director, owner and neighbours, we can not take corrective measures because the code is rigid. However, you can be sure of our board, along with many individuals, participation in the infill, the choice of sites and Eugene recalling that the municipal council and communication planning to change their policy wrong.
With a large apartment building literally threat on us, our general meeting on January 8, will focus on planning and infill. We will meet at 7 o’clock in Edison School.
